Special training system

The special trainee system is a system that allows students to remain in graduate school and receive training even after completing the two-year master's program. The main activities of special trainees are as follows:
  1. Case Manager

Students will be able to continue to take on the cases they were in charge of until graduation, and continue to gain more training. In addition, students may be assigned to new cases that are difficult for current students to handle.

  2. Inspector

    Responsible for psychological testing.

  3. Individualized Tutoring

Just like current students, you will be able to receive individual guidance on the cases you are responsible for (ongoing cases, test results, etc.).

  4. Training at external organizations

Training can be conducted at affiliated medical institutions within the prefecture.

  5. Attending lectures

With the permission of the instructor, you may audit lectures.

  6. Use of campus facilities

You can use various on-campus facilities such as the library and special training rooms.

Comments from Special Trainees

・After graduating from graduate school, I continued to work as a special trainee and continued to take on cases that began while I was in graduate school. Psychological clinical practice does not follow the textbook, and sometimes it is easy to forget the basics. By taking on cases in a protected environment as a special trainee, I can return to the basics of psychological clinical practice and sort out the anxieties and questions I have in the field.

・It was valuable because the interviews were held in a well-structured and protected framework, which is something you rarely get after graduating. The two years of graduate school go by in the blink of an eye, so you can review and learn what you have left to do at your own pace, and you can get information about training sessions, etc.

・We recommend this course as it allows you to receive thorough SV training while also being able to handle cases, allowing you to learn the basics of counseling.

・My one year as a special trainee was very valuable. I would like to mention two points in particular. First, I was in charge of three cases and received thorough individual guidance. It seems that it is quite difficult to have a well-structured interview at the Psychological Clinical Center attached to the university elsewhere. After graduating from graduate school, I think it is very important to experience as many interviews as possible and receive thorough individual guidance before taking on many interviews that require flexible response. Being able to attend case conferences is also very meaningful in terms of honing basic aspects such as how to see the client, the method and attitude of the interview. Secondly, it is relatively possible to study at one's own pace. Since I was not from the psychology department, I was able to learn even things that I should have already studied at the undergraduate level. However, I think that I was always busy with assignments, such as classes and reports in the first year, and my master's thesis in the second year. In addition, I think that it is easy to obtain various information such as training sessions, and it is easy to interact with seniors and juniors, which are major benefits unique to special trainees.
