Lecturer Mari Kawamoto received the "55th Annual Academic Award from the Japan Society for Library and Information Science."

Ms. Mari Kawamoto, a full-time lecturer in Department of Human Sciences and Cultural Studies at our university, has received the "55th (2026) Academic Award from the Japan Society for Library and Information Science."

The award ceremony was held at Kokugakuin University on October 18, 2026.

The book that received the award is Mari Kawamoto's "Libraries as Places: Required Functions and Roles" (Minerva Shobo, 2026).

Lecturer Kawamoto specializes in library and information science and researches the significance and role of libraries in today's increasingly digitized society.

As the way we read and access information changes with the spread of e-books and other technologies, we are exploring the functions and possibilities of libraries, viewing them not merely as places to use books, but as "spaces" where people gather, learn, and interact.

The Japan Society for Library and Information Science is the leading academic society in the field of library and information science in Japan. The reasons for this award will be published at a later date in the Journal of the Japan Society for Library and Information Science.
