General Guidance

First, let me introduce Yamanashi Eiwa College.

●We will give you an insight into the reality of university life through interviews with current students.

Mock lecture

The written expression and book form of the Manyoshu: Towards the deeper meaning of words

We will focus on the Manyoshu, a work of Japanese literature from the Nara period that has also been attracting attention in the Reiwa era.

In the poems of the Manyoshu, for example, the word "kohi" (love) is transcribed as "kohi (lonely and sad)" to emphasize its meaning, showing a diverse world of expression through written notation.

Also, during the Nara period, and more specifically before the Meiji period, books were handmade using handmade Japanese paper, and came in a variety of binding formats, including scrolls and booklets.

The goal of this course is to deepen our understanding of the "content" of such literature by examining aspects other than its content.

Assistant Professor Saki Amano, who specializes in ancient literature, will give a mock lecture.

Messagefrom Assistant Professor Saki Amano--

Why not take a step beyond the Manyoshu, which has been rewritten in easy-to-understand kanji and kana and published as a booklet on Western paper, and enjoy the world of songs and words from a new perspective?
